About the Company
Our client is a modern, technology-enabled insurance MGA that is revolutionising how data-centric risk intelligence and operational agility are applied to the construction insurance space. They work at 100mph, replacing fragmented, manual underwriting workflows with proprietary risk analytics, spatial data, and real-time portfolio monitoring.
Backing ambitious construction partners and specialty underwriters, they are building something genuinely category-defining in niche risk. They need a senior, commercially sharp underwriter/analyst who thrives in an agile environment where deep underwriting expertise meets cutting-edge data capability.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Underwriting / Chief Underwriting Officer, this is a senior, high-visibility role designed for an experienced analyst who wants absolute ownership over portfolio performance across the construction line. You will act as the primary analytical authority - overseeing rate monitoring, evaluating complex claims trends, and optimising risk selection across contractors, developers, and commercial construction programs.
We need a senior leader who goes beyond presenting dashboards to explain the underlying commercial drivers, pinpoint emerging risk concentrations, and directly shape underwriting strategy, capacity management, and pricing models. If you want to supercharge your insurance career in an environment free of corporate bureaucracy, this role was built for you.
Key Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end performance monitoring across construction, engineering, and contractor lines—tracking loss ratios, rate changes, frequency/severity, and profitability metrics.
Maintain, refine, and stress-test underwriting and rating models to optimise rate adequacy and risk selection.
Deep-dive into claims experience and exposure data to detect emerging trends, supply chain pressures, inflationary impacts, and performance anomalies.
Translate complex portfolio metrics into actionable strategy, delivering clear commercial recommendations to the executive team on pricing adjustments, risk appetite tweaks, and capacity allocation.
Partner closely with data engineers, product owners, and brokers to embed advanced risk intelligence into daily underwriting workflows.
Skills & Competencies
Advanced capability in portfolio analytics, financial modeling, and risk evaluation, with deep mastery of core insurance performance metrics.
Strong technical understanding of construction insurance, contractor risks, delegated authority programs, or broader commercial lines.
Hands-on experience with (or strong ability to leverage) tools like Power BI, SQL, Python, or spatial risk tools to drive automated, real-time insights.
A proactive, inquisitive mindset that probes behind surface-level data to solve complex commercial challenges.
Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to present complex analytical narratives clearly to non-technical leaders and capacity partners.
Qualifications & Experience
Strong experience in portfolio underwriting analytics, pricing, or actuarial analysis within an MGA, specialty carrier, or Lloyd's environment.
Direct experience handling construction, engineering, or contractor risk portfolios is highly advantageous.
Proven track record of influencing real-world underwriting strategy and capacity partner decisions through data-led recommendations.
